The reforestation project, led by Fundaeco and implemented by local owners, consisted in a planting programme in degraded land involving four types of system: cork plantations, mixed forestry plantations, agroforestry systems for the production of coffee, cocoa and cardamom, and fruit tree plantations. The total area planted was approximately 1,800 ha, involving approximately 600 reforested land parcels.
The consultancy involved the development of all types of work necessary to meet the requirements for the validation and verification of VCS standards. Specifically, Agresta was involved in the following tasks:
- Supervision of the project limits and training of the local team in forest monitoring
- Creation of the documentation and technical assessment necessary for the validation of the project under VCS standards: preparation of the Project Document (PD), attendance during the validation process and non-permanence risk analysis. In the inventory validation, trials were conducted of the inventory protocol in each of the four plantation types.
- Creation of the documentation and technical assessment necessary for the validation of the project under VCS standards (design of stratified sampling, quality monitoring process, preparation of monitoring reports and attendance during the VCS verification process).
- This project was registered and the carbon certificates were issued under VCS standards at the end of 2016.
