Forest fires

Forests are a shared asset. We develop innovative tools to protect them in the face of fires and manage them in a sustainable way for future generations

Fires are one of the principal threats to the conservation of woodlands. They are happening more frequently because of changes in land use and the increased frequency of adverse weather conditions. We explore new methods and technologies to improve the characterisation of fuel, fire risk and the recovery of fire damaged areas. To do so we invest in developing innovative tools that help in planning, preventative actions and firefighting as well as restoring fire-damaged forests.
